5 Shore spots for a great breakfast

Going out for breakfast is one of life’s little pleasures.

A short stack and hot coffee at the diner; pork roll, egg and cheese at the deli, a brunch that starts off with mimosas — any day that begins with someone else making breakfast is a good one.

The Shore is home to plenty of places where you can grab a great breakfast; here’s a look at a few favorites.

Toast

Toast is a hot spot, no doubt about it. Even in cold weather, diners will wait outside for their turn to tuck into this bustling breakfast and lunch spot, where the focus is on great service, great pancakes and everything in between.

Amy Russo Harrigan opened the first Toast in 2007 in Montclair. Her Asbury Park restaurant followed in 2011, and a third is coming soon to Red Bank, she said.

Harrigan, who comes from a food-loving restaurateur family, pays great attention to pancakes. These days, her carrot cake version is one of her favorites.

“We do them almost like a Morning Glory muffin, but in a pancake version,” she said. “They have raisins, coconut, real shredded carrots. They (have a great texture) because we have a ton of shredded carrots in them. We serve them with a cream cheese frosting; they’re amazing.”…
